Thali is served as a round platter with a variety of dishes(15 - 16) packed into one in India and other South Asian nations. In ancient India, food was served in a wholesome platter but they rarely considered it to be a special affair. So Why have Thalis remained strong throughout food history?
Thalis
They target the need: They target hunger. In one’s routine, Thalis exist to satisfy your appetite. Thalis have remained relevant not for taste but their ability to fill your stomach. Literally.
If you want to stay relevant, you can either change with time or work on any aspect of life that is necessary irrespective of time
Contentment: It is almost impossible to articulate the satisfaction you have when you complete a Thali. They go a step ahead and add emotion to the need. Stomach full? Good. Here’s some nice satisfaction feeling for free.
In any task you perform, you are contributing to an end emotion. Is it boredom? or fun feeling? or peace?
Thalis save time: You don’t need to take care of the details. Are you hungry? Here’s your Thali. Thalis are not big on small talk. #BeLikeThalis
Average rule: No Thali is too sweet or too spicy! Everything balances out in the end. Just like the stock market? This obviously is a strong factor in Thalis staying relevant throughout history. Are you cancelling out polarities in your line of work?
Desserts don’t come in the end: Why delay sweetness? Most of the times, sweets are served along with the rest of food in Thalis. Here’s a funny learning:
Delayed gratification is not necessarily right all the time!
Thalis can overwhelm you: Thalis are not just a pool of dishes. They are all-rounders. They will create ease and then challenge you! Next time something seems overwhelming, try focusing on what’s easy as a starter.
“Thali is not a thali till you get hit by a 'how am I going to finish all this' fatigue.” - Anand Rathi
Thalis are Zen: You can’t mix South Indian Thalis with chinese food. Please don’t. But there is no need to, when there’s diversity already in place in Thalis. Separate Chinese Thalis exist. North Indian Thalis exist. Thalis can take forms and still have their own identity.
